THE MARSABIT LAKE TURKANA CULTURAL FESTIVAL - 4 days

4 DAYS TRIP

This trip is ideal for those who may not have so many days to spare from their schedule, with long travel days on the first and last days. Please note that a longer itinerary for 7 days is also available for groups.

 Day 1: NAIROBI – MARSABIT

Depart from Nairobi very early in the morning. We will have a brief stopover and health break in Nanyuki town before proceeding to Isiolo arriving in Isiolo in the mid-morning. Pick up the journey further North to Marsabit, the last 4.5 hours of the journey arriving in the early evening. Enjoy a game drive in Marsabit National Park with a final stop at the Lake Paradise viewpoint. Proceed to the hotel in Marsabit town. Dinner and overnight here. The evenings are quite chilly in Marsabit and thus it is advisable to be dressed accordingly. Overnight at Jirime Resort      or equivalent.

Day 2: MARSABIT – LOIYANGALANI

After early breakfast depart for Loiyangalani arriving in the late afternoon. Set up Camp in Loiyangalani. Visit the desert museum and attend the cultural boat ride competitions. Evening sunsets by the Lake Turkana shores with the heartwarming reflections of the sunset bringing the magic of the lake alive. You have a chance to swim in the lake. Dinner and overnight at Elmolo Lodge or equivalent.

Day 3: LOIYANGALANI

This day is full day of the festival activities. The activities are mostly based within the 5kms radius of the town of Loiyangalani.

The activities include: Exhibition of cultural foods and medicine, Cultural Performances, Rock Art Tour (4 km North of Loiyangalani), Visit to Elmolo Shrine (Boat hire charges apply), Public swimming, Fashion Show, Moran Race, Cultural Dances, Camel and Donkey Parade, Viewing the Cultural Villages, Ethiopian guest exhibitors, Local Musicians and School choirs. The activity schedule for the festival will be shared on arrival for us to choose where we will want to be in the course of the day.  Movement will be facilitated throughout for the events whose venues are beyond walking distance.

We have a chance also to swim in the naturally heated pool at Elmolo Lodge.  All meals and overnight at Elmolo Lodge, Loiyangalani.

Day 4: LOIYANGALANI – NAIROBI VIA ISIOLO

We break camp early in the morning and depart for Nairobi, through Isiolo, arriving in Isiolo in the early afternoon.  Lunch in Nanyuki enroute. We get to Nairobi just after dusk.
