Nairobi National Museum, Snake Park and the Railways Museum
The Museum located a mere 10minutes walk from the Nairobi city Centre, showcases what you can expect with the culture, nature and takes you through Kenya’s history, more significantly as it relates to pre and post-colonial periods. Visitors with interest in birds getting fascinated by the collection here. Many of the other animals you would see in the parks and reserves of Kenya are on display too.
The display definitely does feature a wide collection of cultural artefacts. There is a gift shop and restaurant within. At the entrance you find Ahmed, the famed Elephant of the North of Kenya that had 24 hours’ presidential protection.
Within the museum is the snake park.
Spending about 4 hours here is a good minimum length of time for the experience.
We then head to the National Archives. On display is a collection of artefacts and history snippets from all over Africa as collected by Kenya’s second vice president, Joseph Murumbi. It appears seemingly impossible to take in enough of what is found in this art gallery as it is inexhaustibly huge.
We then proceed to the Railways Museum. The Railways Museum is a physical record of the Kenya-Uganda Railway, built by the British government and opened in the early 1900’s. The project was both grand and ambitious. Find out why it was famously described as the “Lunatic Express” by many in the Great Britain at the time.
Many engines and wagons used at the time are still to be found at the museum.
Later you are dropped at your hotel/home.
